If you recall the 80’s, you must surely remember the hot running shoes of the time, Kangaroos or ‘Roos’ for short. I remembered how bad I wanted these back in the day, I mean who didn’t want a shoe with pockets? I think I used to keep a quarter in mine, but just the ability to put something in a pocket in your shoe was mind-blowing. The other day I saw my friend wearing a pair of ‘Roos’ and just about lost it as I thought they had disappeared with the 80’s. Retro style old-skool running shoes are definitely making a comeback and while the throwback New Balance shoes are cool, Kangaroos are totally unique and authentic. These were actually
A beautiful pair of casually dressy cap-toes, I love the simple, clean lines with the lightly weathered broken-in leather. Alexander McQueen designs can sometimes be a bit over the top and edgy, but these are just classic and beautiful. Available in both black and brown, these leather soled beauties are made in Italy. $670.00 from Barneys New York [ad name=”go-STIL-smbanner”]
Yes, I’m a dude and I am saying I like Gossip Girl, although it may not be what you think. I actually think the show is pretty good for what it is, even though its not my usual cup of tea. What I do notice is that Gossip Girl characters fashion influence. I travel to New York often, and between the two coasts, there is a definite disconnect when it comes to fashion. Sometimes its a lag, where you will see it in New York first, then it trickles to San Francisco and LA over time, whether it be months or even a year or so, but Gossip Girl is changing that. Almost immediately after an episode of Gossip Girl,
I am a sucker for appliques, shoulder pads and elbow pads, especially in leather, so when I saw this jersey from Zara, it was on my list. I would have preferred it to be wool, but the acrylic/polyester blend will at least stay drier than cotton, and the style just can’t be beat. Besides, its a steal at £29.99. Classic casual style with that rougher edge, this leather appliques jersey from Zara embodies the well dressed mountain man. £29.99 from Zara Men [ad name=”go-STIL-smbanner”]
These boots make me want to go to the desert so I don’t feel like a poser. The grey suede, stitching and just overall look from these Costume National Homme Desert Boots look at home on the LA beach ‘desert’ if you know what I mean. The Italian made desert boots are equipped with a traction rubber sole and a 1.25″ heel. Oh, and you gotta love the heel loop- style elements to boot! A huge fan. A black v-neck sweater, whether merino wool, cashmere, or a blend- but it must be slim fitting! I saw it pulled off very gracefully and beautifully on a somewhat recent episode of Mad Men and I have been hooked ever since. The key pivotal ingredient is the white button collar dress shirt and a nice pair of patterned black and white or grey slacks. It also works well with a black and white gingham shirt (i have one in mind, and in my closet, from Shipley and Halmos) or some other patterned shirt and solid slacks. For the classic look, pick a shallow V-neck, one that allows the collar to pop, but stays folded in the sweater
Is it really the best of both worlds? I have always been a fan of cap-toes, and perforated dress shoes are making quite the statement today- so what of the combination? I personally am a fan. They also exue all the other great traits of a well made shoe: Handmade, Italian leather, leather soles and heel, and the detailed stitching and design. Mmmm tasty brown leather shoes. $355 from Generic Man Available from Gilt [ad name=”go-STIL-smbanner”]
Nothing beats a new pair of dress shoes- and the British sure know how to make them. Grenson has outfitted foot soldiers and the cavalry in both World Wars, but has maintained their dressy nature and build quality. With double leather soles which mold to your foot to the classic styles, you can’t go wrong with any of them. My personal favorites are the Grenson Noble Leather Oxford Wingtips. With the slim leather sole, uniquely classic perforation patterns and supple leather give me a tingle in the toes. $320 from Grenson Shoes Available from Glit [ad name=”go-STIL-smbanner”]
